Man Pretended To Be FBI Agent During Paramus Traffic Stop

Tornike Lubyk, 28, pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to impersonating a federal agent during a Paramus traffic stop last summer.

PARAMUS, NJ – A Queens, NY man admitted to authorities he pretended to be an FBI agent when he was pulled over by Paramus police, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Tornike Lubyk, 28, pleaded guilty Thursday in Newark federal court to one count of falsely impersonating a federal agent during a July 8, 2019 traffic stop, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.

Lubyk told police he was with the FBI’s C-22 organized crime squad based in the Manhattan field office, and presented an apparent FBI badge, apparent FBI credentials, and an apparent FBI security access card, according to Carpenito.

When he is sentenced on Feb. 20, he faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, Carpenito said.
