Man Sentenced In 2019 Robbery, Shooting Death Of Bergen Man: Officials

David Martinez was sentenced to prison after being convicted on charges related to the 2019 killing of a Fairview man, officials said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Hudson County man convicted in the 2019 killing of a local man was just sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to authorities.

David Martinez, of North Bergen, was sentenced to three decades in New Jersey State Prison after being convicted of felony murder and armed robbery in connection with the death of a Fairview man in June 2019, authorities said.

Martinez and four alleged co-conspirators planned to commit an armed robbery against David Duque Soto in the June incident, and during the robbery that evening, Soto was shot twice and died of his injuries, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Soto was found dead in his apartment, Musella said at the time of Martinez's arrest.

The North Bergen convict, who was 18 at the time, waited in the getaway vehicle, while three of the co-conspirators entered Soto's apartment to commit the robbery, the prosecutor's office said.

Martinez was convicted of associated weapons offenses, in addition to the aforementioned crimes, following a four-week jury trial earlier this year. He was sentenced to prison with a 30-year period of parole ineligibility, according to the prosecutor and a report.

Three of Martinez' alleged accomplices — including Raul Torres, Carlos Burgos and Lexie Burke — have pleaded guilty to charges linked to the robbery and shooting of Soto, and await sentencing, Patch reported.
