Man Stole Jewelry While Working at a Paramus Home, Police Say

Paramus Police charged a Palisades Park man with stealing three rings from a homeowner while doing work on the house.

A Paramus police investigation led to the arrest of a Palisades Park man who allegedly stole jewelry from a Paramus home while he was working at the location earlier this month.

Paramus Police charged 25-year-old Carlos Garcia of Palisades Park on Wednesday with one count of third degree theft. He was released on bail pending court appearance.

Earlier this month, a Morningside Road resident reported to police that several jewelry items, including rings, were missing from her home. The resident continued to report that she had some recent work done inside the home, and suspected that the individuals performing the work would have had access to where the jewelry was located, police said in a report.

Through an investigation, Paramus Detective Thomas Schroeder identified the workers who were in the home and, with the assistance of the home owner, was able to solicit cooperation from one of the workers.  According to police, Garcia had reportedly admitted to the theft of three rings from the Paramus home to one of his fellow workers.

The rings were recovered and returned to the home owner, police said.
