Patch: How long have you been doing business in town or how long has the organization you represent been around in the community?
Milvidskiy: Early in my career, I would see so many people, as they get older, lose everything they worked for all their lives because of lack of planning, and planning for the things which are certain (or almost certain) to happen. So, I started looking for a solution.

In 2014, when I started the firm, we set out to come up with easy-to-understand and affordable legal strategies to help seniors and their families plan to protect what they have and prepare for the eventualities related to aging.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Milvidskiy: We are a nation of hardworking people. We work through lunches and go years without taking a vacation. We continually strive to meet goals like achieving a comfortable living, buying a home, travelling, putting our kids through college, and saving some money for our “golden years.” We’re fortunate if we’re able to accumulate some investments and save for retirement, or even invest in a second home or a rental property. But most people don’t realize that they need a plan to protect these assets. Many do not understand that their hard-earned savings are at risk of being consumed by predatory litigations, medical bills and long-term-care expenses.
Even when left to their children or other beneficiaries, their assets may be at risk of disappearing because of a failed business, bankruptcy, divorce, or even being gambled away. That’s where proper estate planning comes in. Estate planning is much more than just having a Will:
It can help you protect what you have from a nursing home and exorbitant costs of long-term care.
It can help you avoid costly legal proceedings, such as probate and guardianship.
If you have your own business, it can help you plan for retirement and business succession.
A good plan will help you protect your assets for the lives of your beneficiaries, such as your children, in the event of their financial failures.
It is not enough to have a Will. What you need is to plan to make sure that there is something left to inherit. No matter how large or small your estate, you’ve worked for it, it is your legacy and it is worth protecting. And if you have something that you intend to leave to your children, grandchildren or other beneficiaries, the true gift you can give them is to protect it for them.
Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community? If so, tell us about them.
Milvidskiy: Since 2016, we’ve been conducting free educational workshops designed to explain in a simple and easy-to-understand format some of the most complex principles of elder law and estate planning. Our seminars were offered at local libraries, senior centers and community organizations. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have transformed our seminars into online webinars and continue offering free educational webinars on a regular basis.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in a few words, what would those words be?
Milvidskiy: Help seniors and their families better prepare for the future. Demystify estate planning. Keep it affordable for everyone.
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Milvidskiy: There are so many misconceptions about what estate planning is (or is not) and who needs an estate plan. Most people are not even aware of the legal issues they may be facing as they age and need to plan for. Some people think that estate planning is all about “having a will,” but, in the reality, it entails so much more.
Most people are averse to estate planning, which is understandable. Who wants to contemplate being ill, losing capacity or dying? People don’t feel comfortable dealing with those issues. They feel overwhelmed, but it doesn’t need to be that way. That’s where our process comes in.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Milvidskiy: It is our process. We reduced estate planning to four simple steps…We break it down for you and hold your hands every step of the way. It starts with education. We want you to understand your planning options, while we learn about you and your family. And that’s extremely important. Why? Because we’re all different. Our families are different. Our financial circumstances are different. We all have different concerns and worries to plan for and protect from.
We design your plan together. Our attorneys spend as much time as needed to understand your needs and create a blueprint of your plan literally in front of you. Depending on how complex your plan is, our attorneys usually deliver drafts within two to three weeks. We use state-of-the-art techniques to ensure the accuracy of your trusts, wills and any other documents that go into your plan, which is always reviewed by at least two attorneys.
Once the drafts are ready and delivered to you, our attorneys will review the plan with you (and if you want with your family) and then we’ll assist you with executing the plan, whether it’s at your home or at one of our offices.
Many estate planning attorneys stop the process at executing the documents. That is not right. It is like giving you a sophisticated tool without any direction on how to use it. We help our clients implement the plan. And that’s what makes it work — implementation. You need to make sure that what has to go into the trust goes to the trust. You need to make sure that all beneficiary designations are in place. We help you and guide you. We will give you as much time and attention as you need to make your plan effective and make it work.
We will work with your financial advisor and accountant to make sure they understand your plan and how it fits with what they do for you and your family. It is a team effort, and we work as a team.
