New Paramus PD 'Tasers' Record Audio, Video of Incidents

The Paramus Police Department began deploying the “Taser” model X2 Conducted Energy Device to some of their patrol officers on Sunday.

The devices provide officers with an intermediate level of force between mechanized and deadly force.

According to police, the devices which are regulated with strict guidelines from the Bergen County Prosecutors’ Office and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office offers an option when there is a threat of deadly force or serious bodily injury but the threat might not be imminent or immediate. 

This particular model comes equipped with video and audio recording technology that allows for a review of incidents after the Taser is used.

Police hope that these devices will provide a safer alternative to assist officers when they are dealing with violent people who are under the influence.

Paramus Police have responded to more than 129 calls for potentially violent emotionally disturbed people already this year.

According to police, the devices were purchased with seized or forfeited funds with no cost to Paramus taxpayers. More than 22 officers, supervisors and members of the Emergency Service Unit have been trained thus far.
