Paramus Adopts Long-Time Coming Procedure for Police Promotions
Rules are designed to ensure promotions are granted fairly and in an unbiased manner.

After more than a year in the making, the Paramus Police Department now has a procedure in place for granting promotions to high ranking positions.
The governing body made it official Tuesday night adopting the ordinance which had gone back and forth between officials and the PBA over the past year and more.
The procedure now sets rules for how promotions are granted to the positions of sergeant, lieutenant, captain, detective, detective sergeant and detective lieutanant.

The rules are designed to ensure "fairness and unbiasness" upon granting promotions and eliminating any political bias, officials have said.
Mayor Richard LaBarbiera told Patch Tuesday he credited the PBA which was instrumental in drafting the ordinance. He also credits Councilman Ralph Amato, the former police commissioner, who he says really “championed” this ordinance.
