Passaic Co. Man Kidnapped, Sexually Assaulted Woman: Authorities

A 25-year-old Woodland Park man faces charges after authorities say he kidnapped a woman in Paramus and then sexually assaulted her.

PARAMUS, NJ - A 25-year-old Woodland Park man faces charges after authorities say he kidnapped a woman in Paramus and then sexually assaulted her.

Carlos Belaunde, Jr. was arrested on Friday following a joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Paramus Police Department and Ramapo Police Department and charged with aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

On Dec. 6, Paramus police contacted the prosecutor's office regarding an allegation that an "incapacitated" woman was taken by an unknown man from a restaurant in the borough, Musella said.

The man, whom authorities say was Belaunde, placed her into his car and the drove off "to an unknown location," where he sexually assaulted her, the prosecutor said.

Further investigation revealed Belaunde sexually assaulted the woman in Bergen County and just over the border, in Ramapo, NY, Musella said.

Belaunde was taken to Bergen County Jail in Hackensack pending a first appearance in court, according to the prosecutor's office.
