Stolen Car Leads Police On Chase Through Bergen, Hudson Counties

Two teens and an adult were arrested in a stolen car after a police chase through Bergen and Hudson counties, police said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two Jersey City teens and a Bergen County man were arrested in a stolen car after a pursuit through Bergen County and Secaucus on Wednesday, said Paramus police.

Hakeem Grant, 18, of Jersey City, Donte Wright, 19, of Jersey City, and Yasir Black, 20, of East Rutherford were arrested Wednesday, said Chief Robert Guidetti.

Paramus Police officers received an alert regarding a stolen white Audi Q5 speeding on Route 17 just before 3:30 a.m., police said.

Officer Jaime Takahashi saw the vehicle near A&S Drive and tried to stop it by activating his emergency lights and sirens, police said.

The driver continued southbound on Route 17 at a high speed, police said.

The vehicle exited Route 17 and entered Route 3 eastbound, but lost control and collided with a Chevy Suburban, coming to a stop near mile marker 9.8, police said.

Officer Ryan Cottrell, with assistance from officers of the Secaucus and Carlstadt Police Departments, removed all occupants from the stolen Audi, police said. The three suspects declined medical attention.

Paramus Officer Slavko Bajovic assisted the occupants of the struck Chevy Suburban, all of whom also declined medical attention, police said.

Suspects were charged at Paramus Police Headquarters with two offenses, the chief said:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Receiving a stolen motor vehicle

Hakeem Grant was also charged with eluding, the chief said.
