Pedestrian Hospitalized In Bergen Hit & Run Involving Drunk Driver: PD

A 75-year-old pedestrian was gravely injured in a hit-and-run crash involving a drunk driver, prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run crash involving a drunk driver, according to authorities.

Alan Friedman, 75, was gravely injured Sunday in Closter after being struck by an SUV driven by Jesus Yunganaula Tenempaguay, who was allegedly intoxicated and fled the area prior to police arrival, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Friedman, of Closter, was walking along Durie Avenue when he was hit by Tenempaguay's Honda CR-V at about 3:30 p.m. in the area of Durie and Legion Place, Musella said.

Tenempaguay, 37, of Hackensack, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim, and hindering apprehension. He was also served with multiple summonses for violations related to driving while intoxicated and the crash, the prosecutor's office said.

The arrestee was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending an initial court appearance, the prosecutor's office said.
