Another Delay for Proposed Paramus Road Mosque

Testimony will now pick up in July.

Testimony regarding the Muslim Cultural Center's proposal was expected to be heard Thursday night by the Paramus Zoning Board but the hearing was postponed yet again, this time by request of the applicant.

The hearing is now expected to be held Thursday, July 11.

The applicant requests to occupy a previously approved but not yet constructed office building on Paramus Road near Arcadian Way as a mosque and multicultural center.

Last month the Muslim Multicultural Center returned to the Zoning Board to continue its testimony but that hearing was postponed due to a lack of quorum.

Testimony is set to continue from where it left off last November where details were given from the project's engineer, architect and traffic expert.

The three-story building would have separate entrances for men and women, a small lobby area on the ground floor, which has been reduced to include an additional 5 parking spaces. The second floor would be the prayer area for the women and the third floor for the men.

From previous discussion parking was the biggest concern as Zoning Board members and homeowners on Arcadian Way and Mackay Avenue were concerned that overflow from the parking lot during high attendance events could impact their neighborhood. A total of 61 spaces are proposed while 69 are required by borough code.

The hearing will pick up at 7:30 p.m. on July 11.
