School in Paramus Receives $1M Donation

Teacher training, online learning among initiatives planned after donation.

A couple from Teaneck has given $1 million to a Paramus Orthodox Jewish day school for technology upgrades, the school announced.

The donation to Yeshivat Noam from Avi Katz and his wife Becky, will go toward projects including teacher training, online learning and technology infrastructure, YiddishNayes.com reported.

"This transformative grant will enable our school to expand and enhance this research-based, student-centered approach to learning," said Yeshivat Noam Principal Rabbi Chaim Hagler. "We are so fortunate to not only have the Katzs contribute their financial resources to this exciting initiative, but to also give their time and dedication to work together with our administration to design and implement this program.”

Becky Katz teaches math at Teaneck-based Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls and will help lead a new technology committee at  Yeshivat Noam, the report said.

"As technology is becoming a more central part of education and the world around us, ensuring that our teachers are empowered to meaningfully and effectively use technology in their classrooms has never been more essential," said Avi Katz.
