Tornado Confirmed Across Central Bergen, Near Paramus

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado near Paramus on Monday afternoon. 

“Based on Doppler weather radar data, a storm survey and information from the local media, the national weather service confirmed an EF1 tornado across central Bergen County,” the N.W.S. said in a statement.

EF1 tornados carry winds between 86 and 110 mph. 

Thunderstorms moved across much of the state but a portion of them accelerated and produced a weak tornado as it moved northeast across Bergen County.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado was estimated to have run from 3:16 to 3:18 p.m. on Monday. The maximum wind speed was estimated to be around 100 mph with a path with of 100 yards and a path length of 1.25 miles.

Many trees were downed all around Bergen County but there were no reported fatalities or injuries related to the tornado.
