Two Paramus High School students were named as semifinalists in the quest for a 2014 National Merit Scholarship.
Daniel M. Choi and Erik Helstrom have both been named as part of the group of 16,000 semifinalists, a group that was narrowed down from 50,000 last week.
According to nationalmerit.org, approximately 1.5 million students enter the National Merit Program each year. Entrants qualify by completing the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

The nationwide poll of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.
The next cut, which should be announced in February, will eliminate another 1,000 students.
