Volunteers Needed To Clean Veterans' Gravestones

Volunteers For Veterans Without Voices plans to clean and clear military gravesites at George Washington Memorial Park on Oct. 19.

PARAMUS, NJ - Volunteers are being sought to help clean up the headstones of veterans buried at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

Volunteers For Veterans Without Voices plans to clean and clear each gravesite on Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon and is looking for individuals ages 18 and up to pitch in.

Registration is due by Oct. 11 and can be done by clicking here.

Volunteers who have access to a leaf blower, bucket and spade shovel are asked to bring them along that morning.

The cemetery is only responsible for routine maintenance, such as mowing the grass, but many of the individual military burial sites have become overgrown with weeds and brush.

Volunteers For Veterans Without Voice– which was launched by a pair of Maywood residents a few years ago – coordinates cleanup efforts to edge, pull weeds and rake leaves as a way to honor those who have served the country.
