Walk for Anti-Bullying, Suicide Prevention in Paramus Friday

Bergen Community College anti-bullying organization organizes walk to raise awareness about the epidemic of bullying and suicide.

Bergen Community College’s S.P.A.R.K. A Change, an anti-bullying organization, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention presents “Out of the Darkness,” an anti-bullying and suicide prevention walk on Friday, April 19 on the College’s main campus in Paramus.

Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m. The opening ceremony and walk will follow.

The mission of the walk is to raise awareness on a national level about the growing epidemic of bullying and suicide.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 38,364 suicides were reported in 2010, which makes suicide the tenth leading cause of death for Americans. In that year, someone in the country died by suicide every 13.7 minutes.
