Deadly Avalanche Victim Came From Bergen County: Washington Officials

Yun Park, 66, is among three climbers to die in the avalanche at Colchuck Peak on Feb. 19, according to the Chelan Sheriff's office.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County man was among three climbers killed in an avalanche in Washington State, according to authorities.

Yun Park, 66, of Palisades Park, was among a group swept about 500 feet down a steep gully along the side of Colchuck Peak on Feb. 19, authorities said.

Seong Cho, a 54-year-old from Connecticut, Jeannie Lee, a 60-year-old from Queens, and Park lost their lives, according to the Sheriff's office.

A fourth climber, a 56-year-old New York, was hurt but managed to hike back to base camp where two others from the group stayed that day, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said.

The remaining two back at base camp sent a reporting party for help, the sheriff's office said.

As of Feb. 22, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said the bodies of the climbers killed in the avalanche remain at the scene.

"Recovery efforts from this point forward will be based on avalanche and weather conditions as well as overall rescuer safety," he said.
