"As a result of an overwhelming supportive vote by the general membership and the Golden Elks Pop Warner Executive Board, the decision was made to remain affiliated with the Pop Warner organization with the belief that throwing away 49 years of tradition and a long-standing relationship with Pop Warner was not in the best interest of the children that participate in the program," according to the prepared statement.

"According to members of the Golden Elks Pop Warner Executive Board, the sentiment that Pop Warner’s structure and sound league rules continue to support the safety and well-being of all children was paramount in the decision to remain affiliated with the league," the statement says.

"The Point Pleasant Golden Elks Pop Warner organization has stated that it will continue to strive to provide all children with a safe football and cheer experience.

"Fundamentals needed to grow and develop, not only in the areas of football and cheer in each level in the Pop Warner program, but in the community as well, will be provided by qualified and experienced coaches and staff," the statement continues.

"In addition, GEPW remains committed to the academic development of all participants by continuing to recognize their achievements through the Pop Warner Little Scholars Scholarship Program."
