No Jail Time For Former Head Of Point Pleasant Beach Little League

Vincent J. Cicalese must repay all of the $16,000 he stole with the League's ATM card

TOMS RIVER - The former Point Pleasant Beach Little League's president managed to evade doing jail time for stealing more than $16,000 from the ball club who once headed, according to app.com.

Ocean County Superior Court Judge Linda Baxter ordered Cicalese to repay all of the money, and sentence him to two years probation. Cicalese made 32 unauthorized ATM withdrawals with the League's card between Aug. 8, 2014 and April 30, 2016.

Martin Anton, supervising assistant Ocean County prosecutor, told Baxter that Cicalese, has already repaid $11,000 to the club, but still owes about $5,133.

Tom O'Grady, the league's treasurer, said the more than $16,000 that Cicalese stole represents more than the organization's annual budget, which is about $12,000. He said the league serves between 150 and 180 children a year.

"The kids are the victims," O'Grady said after Cicalese was sentenced for the theft. "The league suffered, so the programs we offer suffered. Unfortunately, it is the kids who suffer."

His attorney, Michael Schaller, said Cicalese called a meeting of the league's board and admitted stealing the money.

But Bill Barry, field supervisor for the League, said Cicalese came forward only after other league officials became suspicious.

Anton said that in addition to the monetary loss, the league's reputation in the community suffered, and Cicalese sent a bad message to the youngsters.
