Susan Ward and Regina Foley Take Point Boro Board of Education Oaths

Sue Ward and Regina Foley were sworn in as at Monday night's Point Borough Board of Education reorganization meeting.

Ward narrowly defeated  board president John MacDemant, who had been a member for 13 years.

Before stepping down, MacDermant thanked the public for passing the school tax levy and also thanked the district staff. He shook hands with board members and hugged Ward and Foley.

Foley was sworn in to her first full term on the board. She had been appointed to a board seat vacated last year and ran for the first time.

The result totals printed on the board's Monday night agenda were slightly different than the totals released by the Ocean County clerk's office on election night, but the minor differences had no impact on who won.

On election night and the following day, the county reported that Foley was the top vote-getter with 1,101. Last night, the agenda showed that she had received two more votes at 1,103.

The updated results show that Ward received 1,045, one more vote than what was originally reported. And MacDermant received 894, also an extra vote. Either way, it was a difference of 151 votes.

Newcomer James Barber received 349 votes, one more than what was originally reported.

Newcomer Tim Harrison received 247 votes, despite that he had announced a couple of weeks before the election that he no longer wanted to be on the board. The total reported last night was the same.

The board members voted for Sean Hagan as board president and Susan Byington as vice president.

Board Attorney Daniel Popovitch, who said he's been in the position for about 20 years, thanked the board for reappointing him.
