R'Wood's B.F. Middle School Locked Down Tuesday Morning

Police, school officials determined incident 'was nothing,' Principal Anthony Orsini said

Ridgewood's was briefly locked down Tuesday morning after school officials did not recognize an adult male on school property.

According to Principal Anthony Orsini, a man with a beard was dropping off an item, possibly for a younger sibling. Orsini said a teacher didn't recognize the individual and confronted the man, who reportedly said 'I'm OK' and continued walking.

The school was locked down for approximately five-to-ten minutes at around 11 a.m. as a result, Orsini said.

"Upon investigation the person was legitimately allowed to be in the building, and had entered the building through the front door when a student held the door open for the person," Orsini wrote in a letter posted on the district's website. "The person did not report to the main office."

Please remember to remind any babysitters or older siblings who may be entering the building (or even yourself) to check in with the main office upon arrival," Orsini said, addressing parents in the letter.

Police came to B.F., watching security tape and determined it was not an abnormal situation, according to the principal.

"The teachers did the right thing and reported it as they're supposed to," he said.
