Thursday: Penn But No Teller

One half of magician duo Penn and Teller will be at Bookends promoting his new book

1) The village council approved a resolution naming the intersection of Morningside Road and California Street as "Willard Way" in honor of Dr. Harry Willard, who was the Board of Education President from 1912-1930, in commemoration of the centennial of the Willard School.

Will we be seeing Lenhard Lane in the future?

On a somewhat-related note, Assistant Superintendent of Business Angelo DeSimone said at the Monday BOE meeting that the district is still exploring options for naming rights at its facilities.

Can anyone think of good companies for some of the facilities?

2) Village Manager Ken Gabbert said costs in direct overtime alone related to Irene was $78,000. When everything is tallied up, he again reiterated that costs will likely be over $600,000. The $400,000 emergency appropriation is just a starting point, he said. More will be needed to cover other aspects, including the replacement of a sewer pipe near Saddle River Road, which took extensive damage. That should be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, though specific figures are not yet in.

4) In case you missed it, Gypsy Pond will be getting a good cleaning thanks to the work of volunteers from the Ridgewood Wildscape Association on October 2. If you have some time, clear the date on your calendar and head over there.

5) The Ridgewood girls tennis team has won two consecutive matches 5-0, most recently taking down Hackensack. The team plays today against Teaneck in an away match starting at 4:00 p.m. The girls soccer team (1-1) will play Passaic Tech in the neighboring county at 4:00 p.m.
