1) As you may know, the Valley Hospital meetings at the council are getting underway tonight at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the RHS Campus Center. Residents can bring signs but there will be no chanting, no yelling. All residents who speak (3 minutes per person, 1 bit at the apple) will have to sign in on the book in the back before beginning to speak.
2) The zoning board will also be meeting this evening, getting together at 7:30 p.m. Among the applications on the agenda is the Franco variance request. The Circle Ave. residents have been both supported and opposed by the neighbors on the street. Opponents say it's a classic example of McMansionization and say it will detract the quality of life for some. Other neighbors have no issue whatsoever with the proposal and fear their children could have fewer kids to befriend if the Franco's move.
3) The "Touch-a-Truck" event has been announced by the village. The annual event teaches public safety through fun, props, vehicles and obstacle courses. The date is September 23 (a Friday at Van Neste Square.

4) School board prez Michele Lenhard told Patch after the Monday night BOE meeting that they'll look into rescinding the resolution allowing temporary fields (Somerville, Kenilworth, Willard and Brookside) while the turf facilities are being repaired. The district resolution allows for up to 12 weeks of lighting at the new alternate fields, but with the fields opening up at RHS Stadium and Stevens sometime next week, the district too would like a return to normalcy.
5) There will be a showing and discussion of "In A Better World," a Danish film that won a Golden Globe as Best Foreign Film, at 7:00 p.m.
