What Will the School Board Do with $1.69M in State Aid? Find Out Tonight

Board to also discuss health benefits, staffing needs and student discipline policy

The Ridgewood Public School bank accounts got a bit fatter after learning the state would restore some of the $3 million in aid it snatched in 2010-2011.

Now, with the official gubernatorial word for 2011-2012, the question then becomes, "So what do we do with it? What alternatives are there?"

The five members of the school board and top administrators will try to make some headway in determining the answer, though there remains the possibility the state may have placed restrictions on how the money can be used this late in the budget game. We'll find out.

In addition to making standard personnel moves and possibly approving some hefty change orders from referendum projects (totalling about $220,000), the board will be discussing additional staffing needs in filling retirements and chatting about health benefit premiums for employees.

Oh, and remember the new harassment guidelines former school board member Laurie Goodman objected to? It's on second reading and could very well be passed. Goodman said at the last meeting with the schools having the power to discipline students for actions that occurred off school grounds.
