1 Killed, 1 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Union County I-78 Crash

A woman was killed and another was injured in a multi-vehicle crash on I-78 in Union Township Tuesday night, according to State Police.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A woman was killed and another was injured in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 78 west in Union Township Tuesday night, according to NJ State Police.

Police said a Toyota Camry was disabled in the left lane of I-78 express west, as a result of an earlier crash, and the two passengers were standing alongside the Toyota when they were both hit by oncoming vehicles. State Troopers rushed to the scene at around 8:18 p.m.

Charles Marchan of NJ State Police said, based on preliminary investigation, a Nissan Altima was traveling in the left lane of I-78 express behind the parked Toyota. In addition, a Honda CRV was traveling behind the Nissan.

The Nissan moved to the right of the parked Toyota to avoid a collision and was hit from behind by the Honda. As a result, the Honda hit the left concrete barrier, the rear of the Toyota and a pedestrian. On impact, the Toyota then struck the second pedestrian.

According to police, 31-year-old Amy L. Miller of Morristown suffered fatal injuries, and 42-year-old Balele J. Bamouni of Bronx, New York suffered moderate injuries.

Marchan said the crash remains under investigation.
