Five Summit Residents Listed Among Runners in Boston Marathon

Patch has only received word on three of the five runners.


Updated April 15 at 9:50 p.m.: Three are now reported dead following two explosions which occured around 2:50 p.m. at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, according to officials. One of those reported dead is an 8-year-old boy. Hospitals in the area are reporting that about 132 are injured, 17 critically.

Two are reported dead and over a hundred injured following two explosions that occurred this afternoon at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. 

Five Summit residents were registered for today's marathon, however according to an individual race tracker only four seemed to have participated.  PBS reports 562 runners from New Jersey were among the 23,000 in the race.

Summit Patch tried to reach runners or loved ones at their home phone numbers, but no one could be reached.

The runners from Summit include: Thomas Brand, Elizabeth Haines, Meaghan O'Neill and Megan Schnall and Stephen Thomas.

According to Google's Person Finder, of the runners from Summit, Elizabeth Haines has been reported found. If you know of others, you can report them on the person finder by clicking, here.

Update April 15 9:48 p.m.: Patch Spoke to Haines and she was leaving Boston at around 9:45 p.m. She finished the race 15 minutes before the first explosion, she said.

Update April 16 3:30 p.m.: Runner Megan Schnall of Summit reached out to Patch on April 16 and said she is safe.

Update April 16 at 9:30 p.m.: Runner Stephen Thomas was registered for this year's Boston Marathon but was not able to participate.

The Central Jersey Road Runners reported that runner Thomas Brand was also safe following the explosions.

The race times were reported as follows:

  • Thomas Brand, 66, reached the 40K mark at 3:26:09 p.m. 
  • Elizabeth Haines, 42, finished the race at 2:11:22 p.m.
  • Meaghan O’Neill, 18, reached the 40K mark at 2:51:13 p.m.
  • Megan Schnall, 35, finished the race at 1:58:54 p.m.
  • Stephen Thomas, 38, had no reported times.
