Junior Enrica Fabricant at the Top of Her Game as Summit Softball Sits Undefeated

Junior Enrica Fabricant is playing for the Summit Varsity Softball team in her first year since moving back from California. Fabricant told Patch she has been performing really well this season with a .714 batting average.

Fabricant, who most call “Kicca,” said that Monday’s game against Elizabeth’s Benedictine Academy was probably one of her best games ever.

She stated that she hit a homerun in the first inning, had a few great catches and threw the ball well from her shortstop position.

The Summit Varsity Softball team currently has an undefeated record of 6-0, with wins against Roselle, Roselle Catholic, Plainfield, St. Mary, Dover and Benedictine.

Fabricant said that the team specifically played well against both Benedictine and Dover.

“They weren’t close,” she said. “We dominated them.”

When asked if the team has accomplished anything this season that they may not have been expecting, Fabricant simply stated: Winning.

“We didn’t know we were going to win,” she said. “I heard last year they did not do as well and to be undefeated is a shocker.”

Fabricant has played softball since she was in the fourth grade, but moved out of Summit to California in fifth grade and this is her first year back in the city. She also plays soccer for the High School, as well as a club team. Although she has been playing soccer longer, she said she enjoys softball more.

At first, Fabricant was afraid she would not make the team, but it all ended up working out and everyone is friendly and the coach is really nice, she said.

As the season moves forward, Fabricant is looking forward to becoming better friends with the girls and growing closer as a team.

“I really like this team,” she expressed. “I’m really happy I’m playing with them.”

On Thursday, the Varsity Softball Team will play Hillside away at 4 p.m.
