More Outdoor Seating For Summit Restaurants? Council Will Vote
Summit Common Council will vote on a number of ordinances to designate more outdoor eating and drinking spaces throughout downtown.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit's Common Council will get together on Tuesday and vote on a number of ordinances to designate more outdoor eating and drinking spaces downtown, according to this week's agenda.
The council meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chamber at City Hall, and it will be live streamed on the City's YouTube channel. According to the agenda, the council will vote on the authorization of a number of "temporary parklet locations" near downtown restaurants, among other resolutions.
As Summit has introduced more outdoor eating spaces during the pandemic, the council will once again vote on temporary parklets for The Office Tavern and Grill, Piattino and DUE 360. The resolutions for The Office Tavern and Grill and Piattino also include authorization to execute a license agreement for a the sale of liquor in the outdoor areas.

In related news, Westfield's council recently passed an ordinance to allow outdoor drinking with open containers in various designated parts of town.

At the top of the meeting, the council is also set to introduce an ordinance to allow for the temporary closure of Maple Street as a "pedestrian mall." This would close off the street to all traffic temporarily.
A public hearing for this ordinance will be held on May 3, according to the agenda.
In addition, Summit Common Council will vote on a resolution to permit Home Power Yoga, a local hot yoga studio, to use the Maple Street road closure for classes on weekend mornings.
Other important resolutions to be voted on include:
- Authorizing Arbor Day festivities
- Authorizing an agreement with NJ Department of Transportation to install a guiderail at the intersection of Hobart Avenue and Route 124
- Award a bid for spring 2022 tree planting and watering of 125 trees in the city's right of way
- Award a bid for a cul-de-sac improvement project to repair sidewalks and curbs, as well as improve drainage, milling and paving on Meadowbrook Court, Crest Acre Court, Carleen Court, and Woodcroft Road.
