* SHIP serves about 15,000 meals each year to the needy, the
homeless, and the at-risk homeless and relies upon the generosity of
Summit residents to do so. Breakfast along with a bagged lunch are
served each morning from 6AM to 7:30AM and dinners are served on
Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 to 4:30.
* The Food Drive in May provides most of the non-perishable food
and other supplies that SHIP can use throughout the year. The estimated
retail value of these collective items is $5,000 per year, which SHIP
would otherwise have to purchase.
* The Drive results in the collection of 6,000 to 8,000 pounds of
food, much of which SHIP distributes to food pantries and other social
service organizations in the Summit area.
* The Food Drive enables SHIP to allocate more of its financial
resources to perishable items, such as milk, bread, lunch meats, salad
ingredients, which must be purchased weekly.
* The Food Drive also enables SHIP to offer patrons a wider
selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner items than might otherwise be
possible.
