Summit Fishing Derby To Feature 1,000 Rainbow Trout At Muni Pond

If you fish upon a star, you might find the perfect catch at this year's derby on April 30 and May 1. Halibut it?

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit's 2022 Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) Fishing Derby is set to take place later this month, and the pond will be fully stocked with rainbow trout.

The fishing event is scheduled for Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the Summit Municipal Gold Course located at 189 River Road. Over 1,000 rainbow trout will be swimming throughout Muni Pond, according to Summit Community Programs.

Event-goers are encouraged to catch one of the ten 21-inch prize fish, which will be swimming among the other thousand 13-inch trout.

People can also pick up a free hot dog and soda at the P.A.L. food cart at the event.

The derby will take place rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, and admission is free. No Muni memberships are required.

Those participating are required to bring their own rods and reels. Bait and tackle will be for sale at the event. Free parking will be available on-site.
