Summit PD Gets New Detective Bureau Leader

Lieutenant Michael Rabasca recently assumed command of the Detective Bureau following the promotion of his predecessor, Detective Lieutenant Andrew Bartolotti, to the rank of Captain.

“Lieutenant Rabasca is well known throughout the State as a tenacious, hard-working and dedicated detective," noted Summit Police Chief Robert Weck. He called Rabasca "one of the best the Summit Police Detective Bureau as ever seen," adding, "I'm sure he will bring all those traits with him as he takes command of the Detective Bureau and the members of his unit will undoubtedly benefit from that.”

Lt. Rabasca is no stranger to the Detective Bureau, having served as a detective from 2001 to 2004 and as a Detective Sergeant from 2008 to 2011. During his 18 years with the Summit Police Department, Lt. Rabasca has been the recipient of many awards including four exceptional duty awards, six honorable service awards, and the Chief’s award for exceptional duty, to name a few.

For the past eleven years he has represented the City of Summit on the Police Unity Tour, a 300 mile bicycle ride to Washington D.C., aimed at raising awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, and has participated in numerous other charitable endeavors including fundraising for the Special Olympics and holding a position on the Board of Directors for the Thomas I. Glasser Memorial Scholarship Fund. Lt. Rabasca graduated from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and continued his education in the Masters program at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City.
