Congratulations to Summit High School Senior Chris Chen who will receive the Governor's Award in Instrumental Music on May 2nd in Trenton. The Governor's Awards in Arts Education are designed to promote awareness and appreciation for the arts by honoring individual students who have achieved national and state recognition and who attend public or private schools in New Jersey.

All State Orchestra is one of the highest performing opportunities for high school students and Chris has been a member each year of his high school tenure.  To attain this status, students must go through a rigorous audition process to compete with hundreds of students for the level of their Regional Orchestra.

They are then eligible to audition for NJ All State Orchestra with a pool of over 500 students vying for the 125 spots.  Of the 125 students represented in the NJ All State Orchestra, only two are chosen for the honor of the Governor's Award.

Those selected have attained the highest audition scores and the recommendation of the conductor, manager and orchestra procedures chairman.  Chris was also a member of the select All Eastern Orchestra as well as first alternate to the National Honor's Orchestra.
