Temple Sinai Hosts Cantor Shemesh & Friends Concert

The concert will feature Galeet Darhashti and her all-woman band Divahn performing their Mizrahi/Sephardic sounds and songs.

From Temple Sinai: Music, a universal language which bridges differences will create an exciting melodic journey from Sephardic to Ashkenazic Jewish Music at this year’s Cantor Shemesh & Friends concert on Sunday, June 11th, at 3PM at Temple Sinai of Summit located at 208 Summit Avenue. The concert will feature Galeet Darhashti and her all-woman band Divahn performing their Mizrahi/Sephardic sounds and songs.

Following a family tradition of distinguished musicianship dating back to 19th- century Persia, Galeet Dardashti has performed as a soloist in Israel and throughout the US, including significant cantorial work. She is the leader of the band Divahn, an ensemble that dazzles audiences with its Middle Eastern groove. Infusing traditional and original Jewish songs with sophisticated harmonies, entrancing improvisations, and funky arrangements, Divahn has an international following. As one of the few groups performing Mizrahi and Judeo-Arab music in the US, Divahn welcomes its audiences to a beautiful sphere of shared Jewish and Muslim culture.

Galeet and the band will be joined by Cantor Marina Shemesh, whose fascinating musical and spiritual journey has taken her from Russia, to Israel where she was a soloist in the New Israeli Opera, to the bimah of Temple Sinai. The program will feature both Sephardic and Ashkenazic music and will appeal to all ages.
