Attempted Car Theft, 2 Arrested In Summit: Police
Summit Police arrested a pair of suspects after attempting to steal a car on Washington Avenue Thursday afternoon.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Police arrested two people in connection with an attempted car theft Thursday afternoon, according to an announcement from the department.
A resident on Middle Avenue observed two suspects pulling on car door handles on Washington Avenue, police said. They were able to enter the vehicle, but did not take it.
The resident saw the suspects walk down Middle Avenue toward Briant Park and make left on Springfield Avenue, according to a Summit spokesperson.

Patrol officers then located and arrested the suspects in the area of 41 Springfield Avenue at 4:55 p.m., the spokesperson said. Both people were charged with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt.
They were both sent to Union County Jail to await their detention hearing, according to the spokesperson.
