Two More Attempted Car Thefts In Summit, Both Unsuccessful: Police

SUMMIT, NJ — Over the weekend, two attempted car thefts occurred in Summit, according to an announcement from the police department.

Both attempts were unsuccessful because cars were locked and keys were removed, according to police.

An unlocked 2020 BMW X5 that was parked on Tulip Street late Saturday night was entered and rummaged through. Police said the key fob was not in the vehicle, however, and it was not stolen.

Then, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning, police said a Hillcrest Avenue resident observed a man wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt and surgical mask exit the passenger side of a Mercedes with dark-tinted windows. He walked up the driveway and tried to enter a 2014 Porsche, but the car was locked.

The man was unable to gain entry, police said.

Resident Delia Hamlet told Patch she was disappointed that there was no Nixle alert released by Summit Police following these two incidents.
