Pedestrian Killed In Route 166 Crash In Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night in Toms River in a crash on Route 166 that involved a motorcycle and another vehicle, authorities said.

The crash near Stella Plaza involved a vehicle, a motorcycle and a pedestrian, Toms River Lt. Gene Bachonski said Wednesday night.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, which confirmed the fatality Thursday morning, said the person was hit in the area of Hilltop Road about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday.

The prosecutor's office did not release additional details because of the ongoing investigation.

Route 166 was closed from Lomell Lane to Mapletree Road for two hours.

The prosecutor's office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are investigating.

Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer urges anyone with information about the crash to call Sgt. Brad Frank of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, ext. 3689, or Toms River Police Officer William Resetar at 732-349-0150.

The New Jersey State Department of Transportation Diversion Team assisted with the road closure.
