4-Alarm Union County Fire Tears Through Residential Hotel Saturday

Firefighters from across Union Co. responded to a four-alarm fire that burned through a residential hotel early Saturday, authorities said.

ELIZABETH, NJ - Firefighters from across Union County responded to a four-alarm fire that burned through a residential hotel early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The blaze, which took place at the Knights Inn on Spring Street in Elizabeth, was first reported at around 5 a.m., according to abc7.

Several guests and a puppy were treated for injuries, according to a video taken by one Twitter user.

Four-alarm fires are large in scale, complex to battle and typically indicate "catastrophe," according to Firefighter Insider.

As of 7 a.m., Route 1-9 SB between Grand and East Jersey streets were closed due to the fire, with traffic stopped back to Anna Street, per Total Traffic NYC.

By 10:30 a.m., the New Jersey Red Cross’ Disaster Action Team was at the scene to provide aid to guests.

The fire is currently under investigation, abc7 reported.
