The Latest Scoop: Surreal Creamery Comes To Westfield

WESTFIELD, NJ — Surreal Creamery's motto is to "deliver the unexpected." With unique flavors like matcha and taro to toppings ranging from cocoa puffs to lady fingers and Fruity Pebbles, the ice cream shop certainly delivers an element of surprise to its customers.

Surreal Creamery recently opened its doors to Downtown Westfield in December at 130 E Broad Street. Despite the cold, wintery weather, Albert Gien — one of the creators of the creamery — said the new Westfield location has been attracting a lot of ice cream lovers.

"There were lines out the door the first couple of days [it opened] and it's still extremely busy," Gien said.

Other than Westfield, Surreal Creamery has locations in New Brunswick, Midtown East in New York City, Greenwich Village and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

The creamery offers eight different flavors of soft serve, which Gien said is different than most stores that usually only sell chocolate or vanilla soft serve. Some of these flavors include earl grey, taro, blue vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and matcha.

Besides ordering ice cream in a typical cup or cone, Surreal also offers several Mason Jar Specials.

The following are the Mason Jar Specials:

• Early Grey Everyday- earl grey ice cream, caramel syrup, Reese's Puffs and lady fingers
• Know Your Roots- taro ice cream, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, chocolate crunch, chocolate syrup and cinnamon graham cracker
• Nom Nom Cookie- blue vanilla ice cream, chocolate crunch, chocolate syrup, Cookie Crisps, marshmallows and Oreos
• Chocolate Blackout- chocolate ice cream, chocolate crunch, chocolate syrup, cocoa puffs and Oreos
• It's My Birthday- strawberry ice cream, Fruity Pebbles, strawberry sprinkles and rainbow sprinkles
• Matcha Made In Heaven- matcha ice cream, Lucky Charms and caramel syrup

Customers can also make their own mason jar with their own custom flavors and toppings, as well as keep the jar after purchasing.

They also offer a variety of "floateas", which combine bubble tea and soft serve ice cream. Other drinks, such as milkshakes, lattes and slushes are available as well.

The Westfield store is open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
