Westfield High School Government Club Wins Numerous Awards

The WHS Youth and Government Club won a number of awards at the 77th Annual YMCA Youth and Government Conference.

Westfield High School’s Youth and Government Club was awarded several awards at the 77th annual YMCA Youth and Government Conference at the State House in Trenton.

The WHS Youth and Government was named am Outstanding Delegration at the conference. In total, 80 students from Westfield High School were among 581 students from more than 18 high schools across New Jersey, according to officials from Westfield Public Schools.

The conference took place from April 24 through April 26, during which a number of Westfield Youth and Government Club members received awards, as well.

Max Landau was awarded the Outstanding Legislation award, Jack Ritter and Molly Whitehead shared an award for Best Legal Brief, and Alan Fang was named an Outstanding Statesperson. Additionally, during the event Olivia Kuzman, Emma Pettit, Ryan Soldati, Jack Reinhard, Chanel Shum, Cameron Scalera, and Ben Halevy all passed legislation.

Rafaela Laitamaki, Frank Guerriero, and Bryanna Reinhardt were elected as officers for the 2016 Youth and Government Conference, school district officials said. Selected to participate in the Council for National Affairs in North Carolina this summer are Jorge Ledesma, Bryanna Reinhardt, and Ellie Smith.

Superintendent Margaret Dolan applauded the efforts of the Westfield students. “Congratulations to our students and to their advisors, David Della Fera and Daniel Farabaugh, for receiving numerous accolades and for representing Westfield so admirably,” Dolan said.
