Summer has yet to spring, but the summer reading program at Westfield High School has already begun.

The high school’s language arts department, in cooperation with the school’s community service club and library, is hosting a series of events encouraging summer reading, according to school district officials.

The program will feature a Summer Read-a-Thon, a voluntary program encouraging students to read. The signature book for the read-a-thon will be “A Path Appears”, by Nicholas Kristoff & Sheryl WuDunn. “The book discusses the importance of increasing opportunity worldwide to address issues such as poverty and lack of early childhood education,” according to K-12 Language Arts Superviser, Pamela Ackerman-Garcia.
