Westfield Meeting To Discuss COVID + Edison Field Project Updates

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield's Board of Health will hold a meeting on Monday night, followed by a Town Council meeting, where a number of important issues will be discussed.

On the agenda for the 5:30 p.m. Board of Health meeting, a COVID-19 update will be issued regarding case numbers in Westfield, as well as an update on the propose Edison Field Project.

This project involves installing three new turf fields at Edison Intermediate School, and many residents expressed concerns about the environmental and health-related dangers of turf fields at the previous town meeting in January.

Westfield will also hold a Town Council meeting, starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night, and will address a number of resolutions, including Westfield Memorial Pool Membership rates and limiting public comments from 10 minutes to five minutes, among others.

Some residents at the previous meeting expressed frustration over the shortening of the allotted time for public comments, but Mayor Shelley Brindle said limiting the time to five minutes will allow for more people to speak during that period.

Due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, both the conference and regular meeting will be held on Zoom.
