Westfield Resident Revived From Drug Overdose, 8th Incident In 2022

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Police revived yet another person suffering from a drug overdose last week, according to a Facebook post from the Department.

Officer Markovy Jacques found an unconscious and unresponsive 37-year-old man who was breathing shallowly and sweating profusely in his home on Sunday, March 27. Jacques was told that the man was known to have used opioids in the past and was advised that this incident may have been an overdose.

According to police, Jacques administered a single 4 mg dose of Naloxone Hydrochloride, or nasal “Narcan,” in the man’s right nostril, followed by rescue breaths with a bag valve mask to supply more oxygen. Within minutes of his actions, police said the man regained consciousness but subsequently refused further medical care.

"We remain extraordinarily proud of our officers, but extremely concerned with this on-going trend of opioid overdoses," Westfield Police said. "Patrol officers have deployed nasal 'Narcan' on 8 occasions this year, including, most recently, 3 times in 7 days."

In January alone, there were at least four instances where Westfield Police had to use Naloxene to revive someone from an overdose.
