BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A sleeping Emerson man was thrown from his bed after a car crashed into his house Saturday morning, authorities said.

A 2018 Honda SUV was going south on Sullivan Street in Westwood at about 9:30 a.m. when the 37-year-old woman drove through a guardrail at the Westwood-Emerson border, Emerson Police Capt. Michael McDermott said.

The woman kept going, crashed into a parked van and then smashed into a sedan, sending it flying across the street and into a house on Sanford Avenue, McDermott said.

"When it hit the home, it ejected the resident from his bed and onto the floor," McDermott said.

The SUV finally stopped when it slammed into a utility pole, knocking it down, the captain said.

The man, driver, and a 1-year-old in the SUV were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries considered non-life threatening. Local firefighters extricated the woman and baby from the SUV, McDermott said.

Authorities are still investigating the crash. No charges have been filed against the driver.

Local firefighters and municipal officials inspected the house.
