D'Urso Challenging Sobkowicz For Washington Township Mayor Seat
Two teams of Republicans are running for the mayor and two council seats this year.

Washington Township Councilman Joe D'Urso has put his name in to run for mayor this year, and incumbent Janet Sobkowicz is also running to keep her seat.
Both officials are Republicans who previously ran together for their current positions. Councilman Fred Goetz, who also previously ran with them, is running on D'Urso's ticket to keep his seat.
D'Urso and Goetz will be joined by Lauren Thomson for the second open council seat.

Sobkowicz will be running with Peter Calamari and Tom Sears for the two council seats.
D'Urso has repeatedly voiced frustration with Sobkowicz as she has refused to sign contracts for an intersection improvement and shared dispatching services despite action from the council. The two have also disagreed on staff issues and professional service appointments. Under the township's Faulkner Act form of government, the mayor does not hold voting power but acts as an administrator whose signature is needed for contracts and who is responsible for many appointments.

Rosa D'Ambra is also running for one of the council seats as the sole Democrat in the election.
The primary election will be held June 4.
