Firefighters Stop Smoke at Garden State Plaza
Firefighters doused the roof of the Paramus mall, which started smoking as it underwent replacement.

Firefighters put out the smoking roof of the Garden State Plaza in Paramus this afternoon.
A 40-by-60 foot section of the roof began smoking while being replaced, causing a store evacuation. Workers tried to put out the smoke with garden hoses before calling the fire department.
Responding units included Oradell, Fair Lawn, River Edge, Lodi, Saddle Brook, and Washington Township. Medical units were also on standby.

The call was placed around 2:45pm, and the fire was out by 4pm.
