Hillsdale School Board Approves Smith School Canopy Contract
The canopy will be built this summer.

Anne Blanche Smith School will get a new canopy for its front entrance this summer.
The Hillsdale Board of Education approved a $290,400 contract with Vanas Construction Company of Bogota to build the new canopy during their meeting Monday night.
The school's old canopy collapsed last year when it was undergoing some restoration, sending a man to the hospital after he fell 12 feet.

The new canopy is expected to be finished in time for the new school year, according to district Business Administrator Lirca Garcia.
The school board had previously considered using a new design, but there were concerns that the alternate version would attact children to climb on it. The new canopy will be "of similar design [to the old one] with an updated look," Garcia told Patch.
