Legislators Call For Train Fare Hike Repeal
The New Jersey State Assembly passed a resolution recommending the recent fare hike on Pascack Valley, Main and Bergen Line trains be rescinded.

A resolution passed by the New Jersey State Assembly Thursday recommends rescinding the recent fare increases on NJ Transit's Pascack Valley, Main and Bergen train lines.
A ticket for a trip from some Pascack Valley line stations to Penn Station increased by $.50 March 1 because of an agreement between NJ Transit and Metro-North. The cost of a monthly pass increased by $14. NJ Transit has raised fares three times since 2005.
The resolution was sponsored by District 39 Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi and several legislators from other districts.

“It is unfair for commuters using these lines to bear the cost increase due to Metro-North’s increase,” Schepisi said in a press release. “We are encouraging people to use mass transit as a way to reduce traffic, conserve energy and protect the environment. Those who use these mass transit lines are being penalized only because our state shares some of the infrastructure between Metro-North and the Bergen County lines.”
