Westwood Fire That Injured Firefighters Under Investigation

Around 5 a.m., a firefighters from several Pascack Valley towns were called to a fire that broke out at a home on Oakland Avenue.

WESTWOOD, NJ – Six firefighters injured while battling an early morning blaze in Westwood were released from the hospital Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

Around 5 a.m., a firefighters from several Pascack Valley towns were called to a fire that broke out at an unoccupied home on Oakland Avenue in Westwood. While fighting the fire, six firefighters from Hillsdale were injured when part of the home collapsed as they entered, Hillsdale Fire department said.

In a social media post, the fire department said six firefighters were trapped after the porch's roof collapsed. After they were removed, the firefighters were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center North at Pascack Valley for treatment of minor injuries.

"At approximately 9:30 this morning, all Hillsdale FF’s were released from the hospital. They all have suffered from minor injuries. We thank you for your positive thoughts!," the fire department posted.

Westwood Police Chief Michael Pontillo said the fire is currently under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad and Westwood Police.
