Crowds gathered outside of the Robert Spearing Funeral Home in Park Ridge Wednesday while the family of James Gandolfini attended a wake for the deceased actor inside.Gandolfini, "The Sopranos" star who was born in Westwood and grew up in Park Ridge, died in Rome last week after suffering a heart attack.
IRS Will Determine Twp. Attorney's Employment Status
Washington Township officials have been waiting for the Internal Revenue Service to rule whether Kenneth Poller, the township attorney, counts as a municipal employee or a contractor since last summer.It looks like a decision won't come anytime soon.
Township Administrator Catherine Navarro-Steinel said Monday that the IRS informed her they would need as much as 248 more days to complete their review of documents from the town and submit a written decision.

Hillsdale School Board Approves Smith School Canopy Contract
Anne Blanche Smith School will get a new canopy for its front entrance this summer.The Hillsdale Board of Education approved a $290,400 contract with Vanas Construction Company of Bogota to build the new canopy during their meeting Monday night.
The school's old canopy collapsed last year when it was undergoing some restoration, sending a man to the hospital after he fell 12 feet.

Washington Township May Televise Government Meetings
Washington Township residents may start seeing the workings of their local government on TV.After repeated requests from some residents, the Washington Township Council agreed this week to investigate what would need to be done to get their meetings — and those of other township government boards — broadcast on the local cable channel WCTV.
