Westwood Regional Schools Get 'Outstanding' Score on Evaluation

Schools in Westwood and Washington Township got perfect scores in four of five categories.

A recent review of Westwood Regional Schools found that the district was "high performing."

Officials from the Department of Education visited schools in Westwood and Washington Township during May for a Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) review. The district received perfect scores in four categories — fiscal management, governance, operations and personnel — and a 92 percent score in instruction and program.

Board of Education member Lee-Ann Schaadt praised the hard work of the district's staff.

"This is an outstanding accomplishment for the district," Schaadt said.

The QSAC is the Department of Education's tool for reviewing the performance of school districts across the state. Districts must complete self-assessments each year and undergo a more comprehensive triennial review.

Even on the section for instruction and program, the district got full credit on numerous items including their assessment reports, lesson plans and teacher observations, among others, Interim Superintendent Rory McCourt told Patch.

District Business Administrator Keith Rosado said the state officials were "überly impressed with the curriculum on hand" and wanted to bring in other educators to observe it.

"They were so impressed," Rosado said.
