BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — In an effort to make New Jersey residents aware of the seriousness of ebike crashes, police in one Bergen County town have shared video of a teen rider flipping over a car.

Along with the video, posted to social media by police in Montvale last week, police wrote, "This is one example of the numerous bike crashes that have happened in Montvale this summer."

In the video, posted below, a person on a bike rides past a bank driveway when a car is pulling out. The biker hits the car and the teen flips over the vehicle, landing on the roof.

Parents Have Been Ticketed

Recently, in Glen Rock, the police charged a parent after police saw that person's child and another teen riding an e-bike just after 5 a.m. on a Sunday.

In that case, a police officer happened to see "a motorized e-bicycle, being ridden by two younger juveniles, at a high rate of speed."

Magro stopped the bike and found that it was being operated by a 14-year-old Paramus boy with a 13-year-old Rochelle Park boy as the passenger.

Police contacted the parents of both. The teens were released to their parents.

The parent of the Paramus boy was issued a summons for allowing the operation of an unregistered vehicle, police said.

Teens have been seriously injured and killed on ebikes and scooters, particularly in collisions with cars.

"With the increase in popularity of electric bikes and scooters on our roadways and sidewalks, the Glen Rock Police Department wants to make sure everyone is informed of the laws governing these devices," said that department's release.

The police offered this list of rules:
